As a homeschool mom I think my biggest challenge was trying to find a Language Arts Writing program for my children. IEW Institute for Excellence in Writing has been a great program for my 10 year old son.
Having a large family, it really helps me to have a program that offers video instruction that my son can use independently while I work with m other children. Of course I helped him along the way, but it really helps to be able to spread my time throughout all of my children.
I was given the opportunity to use and evaluate IEW for my 10 year old son. I was given two items from IEW:
Teaching Writing: Structure & Style DVD Seminar with Seminar Workbook 69.00
Student Writing Intensive Level A 09.00
Here is Mr. Andrew Pudewas’s introduction to TWSS
I have to admit that at first glance, I was completely overwhelmed with what I had to go over with the teacher’s packet. The Teaching Writing: Structure & Style DVD Seminar with Seminar Workbook set consists of 9 units on 10 DVD’s that teach you as the parent how to teach the style of IEW writing to your kids. So I was fortunate enough to be able to find the (quiet) time to understand this particular teaching method!
Anyway, as I progressed in learning about this wonderful writing program, I figured that I could really learn how to teach my children writing (of course with the help of IEW). To my surprise, not only did my son love it but he could actually comprehend what the DVD program was teaching.
What He Had to Say:
“I really liked the IEW writing program. It helped to learn how to write the correct way. I think it is cool how I can watch it on my laptop and then work with mommy on my lessons. I am glad mommy chose this for me to do…it wasn’t boring!”
Typical 10 year old huh? They think everything is boring at this age of course!
I have to say that if my child says he likes something, especially my 10 year old then it is a winner in my book! I am happy to say that although I have searched high and low for a writing curriculum, IEW has proven a great fit for my family and I look forward to using it for the years to come for the rest of my children.
